How do I reserve space for an event at the Recreation and Wellness Center locations?
Contact the Event Planner at 407-823-2408.
Include the name of the organization requesting, contact person, date and time, type of event, space requested, and the number of anticipated participants. -
Where can I put my personal belongings while taking classes or working out?
There are cubbies in both of the group exercise rooms for students/members to store personal belongings while taking classes. While on the weight floor and basketball courts, there are black lockers for temporary use (no locks are required). There are also daily use lockers in the locker rooms, but you will need to provide your own lock. You can purchase a locker in the locker room for the whole semester from the Membership Office.
The RWC is not responsible for lost or stolen items. -
Why is the RWC so cold/warm?
The Recreation and Wellness Center HVAC system is an extremely intricate system many times more complicated than your home or car air conditioner. The system is controlled by many computers and does not work at the push of a button. Creating an artificial environment is difficult and at times the facility may be cooler or warmer in certain areas due to usage and outside weather. The current setup allows for little deviation from the 72 degree setting for all areas of the facility.
-
Why can't I wear jeans or cargo pants at the RWC?
You can wear this type of clothing inside the RWC just not on the Fitness floor. Rough material such as denim, zippers, buttons, velcro and rivets can be damaging to upholstery and due to heavy usage rates we try to minimize wear and tear on equipment as much as possible.
-
Why do you leave the lights and televisions on all night?
Due to the broad hours of operation and a facility usage of about 3,500 people a day we require a full time custodial and maintenance staff. Generally speaking during a normal week we have about six hours to get the facility clean for the next day. We leave the lights on in the facility for the custodial staff to complete their job. We do conserve power by turning off the lights in many areas such as the Administration Offices, Wellness Center, and group exercise rooms. The televisions are generally left on because we do not have power switches for them. Their power is supplied directly from circuit breakers in a room that is not readily accessible. Additionally, we have made the televisions "tamper proof" so no one can change the channel or turn them off.
Why can't I watch the X channel?
Currently we have twelve televisions in the cardio area where we show six channels of various programming. Generally we like to show at least one news station (CNN, MSNBC, FOX NEWS), one music station (MTV, CMT, VH1, BET), one sports station (ESPN, ESPN 2) and one network station (ABC, CBS, NBC, Sunshine, USA). You will see at least one genre of these channels on our televisions. You may also use any of the twelve cardio machines with standard cable (channels 2 - 78) during your workout and watch whatever you want! The big screen TV on the weight floor will usually broadcast ESPN. We broadcast UCF sports games and play the sound over the house PA system. We also broadcast major sports games (Super Bowl, World Series, World Cup) with the house sound set to music.
Why don't you play country or more rock or rap, etc.?
Currently the music in the facility is provided by Bright House Networks. The music was set on MTV2 and was played on the large screen over looking the main weight floor. We received many complaints about the commercials within the MTV2 broadcast. The decision was made to switch over to a digital music station which provided commercial free programming. Currently the stations are genre based just like normal radio stations. Although we do change the channels regularly, we are always looking for solutions to better satisfy a broader range of users.

What is a fitness orientation?
A fitness orientation is a scheduled 60 min. appointment with a fitness consultant that will take you through a complete circuit workout.
-

This in return will make you feel more comfortable on the floor and be able to use the machines without hurting yourself getting an effective workout.

RWC Park:Who made this turf and what's this stuff made out of?
The green grass blades are made out of a polyethylene fiber which is "infilled" with a 70% rubber and 30% sand mixture. The entire turf system is manufactured by Sportexe, which currently has fields at M & T Bank Stadium (Home of the Baltimore Ravens) and the Louisiana Superdome (Home of the New Orleans Saints). You'll be playing on the same exact surface as NFL teams as well as several college stadiums. -
So is this like Astroturf?
No. Forget anything you know about the old carpet turfs that were popular in the 1970's and 1980's in places such as Three Rivers Stadium and the Astrodome. Since the RCA Dome converted to synthetic grass, there is no longer Astroturf being used in any NFL stadium. Knee injuries and turf toe associated with "Astroturf" made the surface dangerous, however the turf now used plays the same as natural grass and due to it's consistent surface, can be even safer. -
What kind of shoes can be worn? Do I need turf shoes?
Whatever shoes you wear on grass, should be worn on the Sportexe turf. As in all intramural events, metal cleats are not allowed but other rubber/molded shoes are recommended. -
What can/can't I bring out to the new fields?
This is the biggest deal of them all. Students made a large investment in these state-of-the-art fields, and protecting them from damage and misuse will be job #1 of the staff supervising the area. Policies will be posted at each gate detailing items such as chewing gum, sunflower seeds, food, water or drinks that are not in a sports bottle which are not allowed on turf fields. While these items may be okay for grass fields, they can do great damage to turf. So no capri-suns and orange wedges at halftime of your game.Additionally, while Smoking and Pets are already not allowed on grass fields, they are absolutely, positively not allowed on turf. We cannot stress this enough. Full policies will be available on this site.
-
Are there lights on the field?
Yes, the fields are equipped with a state of the art light system by Musco called Control-Link, that allow the lights to be controlled from a remote location. This will allow IM leagues to be played at night. -
Where are these fields located and where do I park?
Maps will be located on the RWC Park website once the fields open up. The turf fields are located directly south of the current Intramural fields, at the end of the Academic Village Parking lot. Just like most places on campus, Parking immediately near the fields is not available. There are several general student spaces (green) at the south end of the large A/V Parking lot. Parking is strictly prohibited in any grass, dirt, or non marked areas near the fields. -
Sport Clubs:How do I join a Sport Club?
Any UCF student who is currently enrolled in class and paying the Activity and Service Fee may join a Sport Club. Students can go to individual Sport Club meetings or practices. Contact an officer of the Sport Club or the Recreation and Wellness Center to find out more details on the club(s) of interest. -
Do I have to have experience to join a Sport Club?
No, experience is not required, but suggested for many of the clubs. Clubs that are competing at the national level may have two levels of teams based on skill level and playing ability. -
How can I start a new Sport Club?
