Group Exercise Instructor Biographies

Name: Adrianne Smith

Experience/Certifications/Education: I have been teaching Spinning for one year/ Johnny G and Reebok Cycle/ I'm working on my undergraduate degrees in psychology and theatre.

Classes I teach: Spinning

Interests: I love working out, theatre, dancing, going to the beach, playing all types of sports and spending time with my friends and family.

Why I Love Fitness: I love fitness because of the sense of accomplishment I have once I've finished my workout. In addition to the mental rewards, I love the health benefits, energy and physical results I get through working out. The most rewarding part of fitness however, is helping other realize and achieving there fitness goals!

Name: Allie Schwartz

Experience/Certifications/Education: Been dancing since age 3 at studios, and competitively for six years. Trained in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern, and hip hop.

Classes I Teach : All that Jazz, Lyrical, and Ballet.

Interests: Dancing (of course), working out, drawing ,listening to music, going to concerts, reading, going to the beach, having fun with friends.

Why I Love Fitness: It's a great way to stay in shape, keep yourself motivated, and meet new people.

Name: Ashley Heintz

Experience/Certifications/Education: 18 years of dance, track and field state all-star, Maddog Spin certified

Why I love fitness: I love motivating people to be active and I enjoy finding new ways to be active.

Name: Charles Mcevoy

Experience/Certifications/Education: Studied and taught at the Integral Yoga Institute in Detroit , MI. for 3 years. Studied and taught at the Sacred Mountain Ashram in San Francisco , CA and Boulder , CO for 12 years. Currently teaching Yoga at UCF Rec Center , Massage Therapist at UCF Wellness Center , Yoga teacher at Rollins College .

Interests: Yoga, massage therapy

Why I Love Fitness: Fitness is important because when you are strong, flexible and focused, you are more likely to be successful in life. You are much better equipped to deal with the many stresses of day to day situations. Yoga explores the mind/body/spirit connection. What is our true nature?

Erin Stevens

Experience/Certifications/Education: This is my first official semester teaching
at UCF (or anywhere for that matter) but I was a substitute for many instructors
at UCF this past fall 2006 semester. I am Johnny G certified in Spinning and
have my CPR & AED certifications. I am currently a junior at UCF pursuing a
major in Radio-Television Production with a minor in Fitness Training.

Classes I teach : Spinning, I'm Johnny G Spin Certified

Interests: I enjoy running outside, working out, being with my family and
friends, movies, music, cooking, and traveling!

Why I Love Fitness: It’s a given-fitness is important because of the obvious
health benefits and I like all that but I am passionate about it because it
makes me feel alive! Nothing makes me feel more “in the moment” than when I
have just finished a challenging workout…I mean it’s exhilarating! Plus, you can
meet some great people at a gym.

Name: Heather Dodt

Experience/Certifications/Education: Psychology Major, Dance Minor 18 years of dance experience, studied dance at the Avnun Yakabov Ballet Cultural Arts Center in Chicago , Kirov Ballet Academy in Washington , DC , and Hope College in Michigan

Classes I Teach: Balletone and All That Jazz Instructor

Interests : Dance, going to the beach, bartending, volunteering at the Humane Society, rollerblading, working out

Why I love Fitness: I like helping others, and because dance classes are a fun way to tone up, and feel more confident about yourself. Balletone incorporates ballet with conditioning exercises, flexability training and cardio. It helps to condition and elongate the muscles for a slim toned body. All That Jazz is more of a dance technique class that mixes flexability training, jazz combinations, toning exercises and choreography for a fun and energizing experience.

Name: Jane Elizabeth Foody

Experience/Certifications/Education:   I have been practicing yoga for almost 8 years. I am certified to teach through Yoga Matrix studio and am working on hours for yoga alliance certification.

Classes you teach: Yoga

Interests:   My interests are in meditation and psychology. Particularly I am interested in the integration of mind, body, and spirit.

Why I Love Fitness: Yoga saved my life. When I was fourteen years old I suffered depression. A counselor suggested I do yoga. After my first class I could not stop smiling, I knew I had found something. Yoga helped me break bad habits and harmful addictions. Yoga always gives me true inner joy. Yoga transformed my life and continues to change my life in ways I never thought were possible. I love yoga because it doesn't matter how much you weigh, who you are, how fit you are, or how flexible you are. Yoga is for everyone!

Name: Jo Wilensky

Experience/Certification/Education: This is my fourth semester teaching at the RWC. I am Johnny G certified.

Classes I teach: Spinning

Interests:dancing, spinning, running, spending time with friends and family

Why I love Fitness: I love feeling healthy and motivating others to be active. Fitness gives you time out of the day to leave everything else behind and just focus on yourself.

Name: Kristen Neilson

Experience/Certification/Education: I completed my spinning certification in the summer of 2007 and have been a spinning instructor at UCF since fall, 2007. I am also certified in both CPR and First Aid.

Interests: I have played competitive soccer since I was six years old, and I also ran track and cross country. I enjoy competing in triathlons and half marathons, and hope to one day finish an ironman. I also like to surf, skate, and scuba dive.

Why I Love Fitness: Fitness is a huge part of my life. I love being outdoors and staying active, and I try to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Name: Laura C. Robledo

Experience/Certifications/Education: I have been a spin teacher for a year at UCF. Before that I played soccer and ran track and cross country. I am CPR/ First aid certified and certified to teach spin of course! I am currently a senior with a major in psychology and a minor in sociology. Classes I Teach: Spin

Interests: I am very passionate about music, singing, dancing, fitness, nature,
helping people, and eating!

Why I Love Fitness: I enjoy fitness because I want to live a strong and healthy life, and I want to help people do the same. Besides that, with the right routine and music, it's just fun!

Name: Lindsay Jones

Experience/Certifications/Education: I have been teaching spin for two years. I just started teaching in the Spring of 2008.

Classes I teach : Spin, Sculpt, and Abs

Interests:
I love to work out. I enjoy running outside on my spare time as well as swimming. My family plays a big role in my life too. Without them I wouldn't be here today. I enjoy spending time with my friends and going to be beach.

Why I Love Fitness: I love fitness because it makes you feel amazing after you have finished working out. I also like the fact that you can be so motivating to people to help them work hard. It makes me happy to know I can improve someone's goals by teaching a class.

Name: Melissa Schreiber

Experience/Certifications/Education : AFAA Primary Group Exercise Certification AFAA Step Certification, I taught group fitness at USF for 2 1/2 years, primarily step. I began teaching group fitness at UCF starting Spring 2006.

Classes I Teach: I teach prep, intermediate, and insane step at UCF .

Interests: My interest include international traveling, running, teaching aerobics and microbiology labs, shopping, eating, studying, drinking red wine, meeting new people, and conducting malaria research at the Biomolecular Research Annex in Research Parkway .

Why I Love Fitness: I love fitness because I enjoy motivating and encouraging students to love exercise!

Name: Melissa Grosso

Experience/Certifications/Education : I have been dancing all my life, training as well as teaching ballet, lyrical, jazz, modern, and choreography, my ultimate passion! My major is Health Sciences- Pre-Clinical with a minor in dance. I have been involved as well as coordinated dance intensives and competed in ballet and lyrical competitions.

Classes I Teach: Ballet-n-tone, Lyrical, 20-20-20, and Relaxation

Why I Love Fitness: It gives you more energy and a great overall perspective on life, in that regularly putting hard work and effort into something, you reap great benefits, become stronger, and feel great!

Name: Nicole Cannell

Experience/Certifications/Education: I have been teaching as a Group Ex Instructor for the past three years at the University of Florida . I was also the Program Assistant of the Group Fitness Program at UF. I have been AFAA certified for three years. I recently graduated from the University of Florida with a BA in communication sciences and disorders, and a minor in general education. I am attending graduate school at UCF for Speech-Language Pathology. I am also Wilderness First Responder and CPR certified.

Classes I teach: Currently I am teaching Latin Cardio, Hardbodies, and Washboard Abs. I have previously taught kickboxing, spin, and cardio blast.

Interests: I enjoy hiking, running, walking, biking, and basically anything outdoors. I enjoy going to the movies and watching the television show, The Office. I love Africa, and am planning on moving there after I graduate to do relief work and education. I am also a sign language interpreter at church.

Why I love fitness: Exercising is so good for your mental and physical body. It is proven to improve mood and reduce the chance of depression, lower high blood pressure, help improve body composition by burning fat, promote bone density, and boost the immune system. And that is just a small list of the wonderful benefits of fitness. I believe exercising can greatly improve many mental and physical illnesses. Also, It is just so rewarding to complete a difficult workout. I have never heard someone be disappointed after a hard workout, you always feel better. So do it!

Name: Sarah Cox

Experience/Certifications/Education: Spinning Certification through Madd Dogg Athletics, plus years of competitive team sports (softball, soccer and weightlifting)

Classes I teach: Spinning

Interests: God, Nutrition, Grocery Shopping, Cooking, Sports, Friends and Family, Board Games, Back Massages, Going Green...

Why I love fitness: Your body is the one thing that you can have complete control over...You regulate what you put into it, how hard you work it, etc. I think that it's so important to treat your body with respect, fuel it properly, strengthen it, and let is rest when it needs it. It's the only one that you get, and you only have one life to use it! Life is to short to be unhealthy!

Name: Shari Ruderman

Experience/Certifications/Education: I have been teaching spin since August 2007 at both UCF and L A Fitness and love it.

Classes I teach: Spinning

Interests: Working out, SPINNING! my sorority (KKG) my friends, the beach, and going out

Why I love fitness: I LOVE fitness because I love how my body feels during and after my workout. It makes me feel happy and good about myself knowing that I am keeping my body in good shape and staying healthy.

Name: Yanet Vellon

Experience/Certifications/Education: After being a committed student of Latin cardio and Zumba for over a year, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I attended a workshop back in October of 2007 and have been a certified Zumba instructor ever since.

Classes I teach: Zumba. What is Zumba? I'm glad you asked! Zumba is dance fitness to international music. Just come to my class and see, you'll be jamming the whole time!

Interests: I enjoy being with the ones I love, having a good time and laughing. I'm all about dancing to the beat of my own drummer! I also enjoy learning about almost all types of things and I love to share that knowledge with others.

Why I love fitness: There's just something about that feeling you get after a good workout. I enjoy the satisfaction of accomplishing the goals I set for myself and helping others set and achieve their own.
