Athletic Training

Services Available

  • Athletic Training services are available to Recreation and Wellness Center participants at select Intramural Sports and Sport Club events.
  • A Certified Athletic Trainer will be accessible most evenings for evaluation and treatment of sport related injuries.
  • Contact an RWC Building Manager to arrange a meeting with a Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Role of a Certified Athletic Trainer: Prevention of Athletic Injuries, Recognition, Evaluation, Assessment of Injuries, Immediate Care, Treatment, Rehabilitation, and Reconditioning.

An athletic trainer is most directly responsible for all phases of healthcare in an athletic environment, including preventing injuries from occurring, providing initial first aid and injury management, evaluating injuries, and designing and supervising a timely effective program of rehabilitation that can facilitate the safe and expeditious return of an athlete to activity.

Return to Play Protocol:

If a Certified Athletic Trainer advises a RWC / IM / Sport Club participant to see a physician based on their injury, the participant will not be allowed to return to activity until they have provided written clearance from a physician.

NO Play List:

Students and members who have not provided written clearance from a physician (as advised from certified athletic trainer) will not be allowed to participate in RWC activities.

Referral Protocol:

This referral protocol will be used by RWC certified athletic trainers to determine severity of injury and to determine appropriate referral location.

Injury Referral Location:

Grade I Sprain/ Strain Student Health Center

Grade II or Above Jewett Orthopedic Clinic or ER

Suspected Fracture Jewett Orthopedic Clinic

Laceration Student Health Center / ER (based on time of injury)

Concussion Student Health Center / ER (based on time of injury)

Head Neck Injury (911) Emergency Room

Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM

Friday 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM

Saturday 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

What to Bring: Insurance Card and valid Student ID

Remember: Be sure to obtain written clearance to return to activity if you are cleared by physician.
