General Information:
The Recreation and Wellness Center is currently in the second construction phase of the new Recreation Field Project. This project is being funded by student CITF funds and will take place in multiple phases. The first phase of the master plan is currently under construction.
The first phase cost approximately 3.2 million dollars, with another 2.8 million dollars committed by the Student Government Association to the second phase when the next CITF allocation becomes available.
Wharton-Smith is a design-build firm that has been selected to complete the project. The first phase will include 3 lighted fields south of the current intramural playing fields. The fields will have an artificial grass surface called Momentum 51, made by Sportexe.
Sportexe - Momentum 51:
Sportexe is a leading manufacturer of artificial turf products. Momentum 51 turf is the same product that is current in two NFL stadiums (Louisiana Superdome - New Orleans Saints, M&T Bank Stadium - Baltimore Ravens). It is also at the University of California and Southern Mississippi football stadiums.
This turf product plays similar to grass, as the poly-fibers are infilled with a rubber and sand mixture that provides a consistent and safe playing surface, unlike previous generations of artificial turfs.
